Abstract (English) : The National Scholarly Editors’ Forum (NSEF) has undertaken a comprehensive revision of the Code of Best Practice in Scholarly Journal Publishing, Editing, and Peer Review, originally published in 2004 and revised in 2018. This latest revision reflects a continued commitment to promoting the quality, integrity, and ethical standards of scholarly publishing in South Africa.
The revised Code has been collaboratively developed by a dedicated working group of the NSEF, reviewed by the wider forum, approved by the Committee on Scholarly Publishing in South Africa (CSPiSA), and endorsed by the ASSAf Council. It incorporates current developments and addresses emerging challenges in scholarly communication, including digital publishing, artificial intelligence, open access, data transparency, and inclusivity.
This updated document offers clear and practical guidance for editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers, covering key aspects of journal publishing such as editorial independence, peer review processes, ethical responsibilities, and governance. It aims to support stakeholders in maintaining high standards of professionalism while fostering trust, accountability, and equity within the scholarly publishing ecosystem.
