More Detail
Abstract (English) : Climate change is increasingly recognised as a significant threat to mental health and wellbeing, extending beyond its well-documented environmental and physical health impacts. This webinar explored the complex relationships between climate-related stressors, including extreme weather events, environmental degradation, displacement, food insecurity, and socioeconomic instability, and their effects on psychological wellbeing and community resilience.
Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, speakers examined emerging scientific evidence on climate change and mental health, highlighting key risk pathways, vulnerability factors, and resilience mechanisms across both Global South and Global North contexts.
The discussion considered environmental, social, and behavioural determinants of mental health, with particular attention to the role of inequality in shaping climate-related outcomes. The webinar also identified policy-relevant insights to support the integration of mental health considerations into climate adaptation strategies and public health planning. The event provided a platform for scientific exchange and public engagement on one of the most pressing challenges of our time: safeguarding mental health in a changing climate.
