Abstract (English) : On 25 May 2026, the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), in partnership with the Lesotho Academy of Science and Technology (LAST), the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS), the Lesotho Young Academy of Sciences (LesYAS), and the Departments of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) of South Africa and Lesotho, hosted an Africa Day webinar titled “Water and energy nexus: cooperation for socio economic development between South Africa and Lesotho.” The intergenerational dialogue brought together established and emerging academics, researchers, policymakers and civil society stakeholders from both countries to reflect on the transboundary water–energy nexus, using the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) as a central case study. The webinar commemorated Africa Day while speaking directly to the African Union’s 2026 Theme of the Year and Africa Day focus: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
