Abstract (English) : The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), in partnership with the International Network for Advancing Science and Policy (INASP), hosted a webinar on “The Role of Research Funders in Advancing Open Access Publishing in Africa” on 12 November 2025. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of research funders in shaping equitable and sustainable open access systems, addressing barriers such as high publishing costs and limited infrastructure. Speakers from South Africa, Uganda, and Sierra Leone shared insights on national and regional initiatives promoting open science, while participants explored strategies to strengthen African-led publishing and foster collaboration across the continent.
