Abstract (English) : South Africa has implemented a range of social assistance programmes that have played a vital role in reducing poverty and addressing inequality.
In response to ongoing challenges and the need for evidence-informed solutions, ASSAf, through its Standing Committee on Science for the Reduction of Poverty and Inequality (SCfRPI), is launched a webinar series focused on Social Protection and Employment Creation.
This inaugural webinar will set the scene by providing a foundational discussion on the current state of social policy and protection in South Africa. It will set the stage for deeper engagements in future sessions and feature insights from leading scholars and experts in the field.
The key objectives of the webinar are to:
• Outline key issues in social policy and protection within the South African context.
• To explore the transformative potential of social policy in addressing poverty and inequality
• To introduce the conceptual and practical frameworks for understanding social protection.
• To share recent research findings and data-driven insights from leading academics.
