Abstract (English) : The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) hosted a webinar on 25 September 2025 with Professor Siphokazi Magadla, joint recipient of the 2025 ASSAf Humanities Book Prize for Guerrillas and Combative Mothers: Women and the Armed Struggle in South Africa. The series of lectures serves as a continuation of the award ceremony, offering winners a platform to share the journeys and motivations behind their books, reflect on the societal impact of their work, and discuss the personal influence it has had on their lives. Prof Magadla’s lecture highlighted the overlooked histories of women combatants, illuminating the intersections of gender, memory, and resistance in South Africa’s liberation struggle while reaffirming the humanities’ role in shaping democratic futures.
