A. Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) Publications

About this Community

The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) Publications community provides a permanent, openly accessible archive of publications produced, commissioned or published by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), including outputs developed in collaboration with ASSAf members, partners, expert panels and other contributors.

The community brings together a diverse range of scholarly and science-related outputs, including consensus study reports, journal peer-review reports, policy and advisory reports, workshop and conference proceedings, statements, guidelines, discussion documents and other ASSAf publications.

Publications may be peer-reviewed or non-peer-reviewed, depending on the nature and purpose of the output. Where applicable, peer-review status is recorded in the metadata associated with the individual item. Users should therefore consult the record for a specific publication when determining its review status.

ASSAf publications are produced to support the Academy’s mandate to promote and apply scientific thinking in the service of society. They contribute to scholarly and professional discourse, strengthen the evidence base available to decision-makers, support the development of science and scholarship, and facilitate engagement between researchers, policymakers, government, professional communities and the wider public.

By preserving these outputs in the ASSAf Research Repository, the Academy provides a central and permanent record of its contribution to South African, African and international science and scholarship, while improving the discoverability, accessibility and long-term preservation of its published work.

The materials are made openly available to encourage reading, discovery, citation, reuse and knowledge sharing, subject to the copyright and licence conditions specified in each repository record.

Authority and responsibility

Publications formally issued by ASSAf represent institutional outputs of the Academy within the context and scope in which they were produced. Where a publication contains contributions, chapters, opinions or statements attributed to individual authors or contributors, those contributions should be interpreted in accordance with the authorship, acknowledgements and disclaimers contained in the individual publication.

Users are encouraged to cite the original publication and acknowledge the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and the ASSAf Research Repository when using or referring to materials preserved in this community.
